Shania Twain’s New Album “Now” Debuts At Number 1

Usually when an music artist takes some time off, it takes awhile to get back to where they were before. In fact a lot of the time, taking even two or three years off can cause them to lose momentum. That doesn’t seem to be the case with Canadian country superstar Shania Twain though whose new album, her first in nearly 15 years, took the top spot on the Billboard 200.

“Now” is Twain’s first album since 2002 when “Up!” was released. At that time the album spent its first five weeks atop the charts. What is so shocking about Twain’s top of the chart movement as well, is that unlike other newly released albums, such as those by Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus, “Now” doesn’t contain a top 10 single. At least not yet. It’s also the first female country artist to reach number 1 since Miranda Lambert did it in June of 2014. The accolades don’t stop there either.

With Twain reaching number 1, she becomes one of just four female artists born in Canada to have more than one top of the charts album. Celine Dion has the most with 4, Alanis Morissette follows with 3 and Twain is now tied with Avril Lavigne with 2. In case you were curious, “Up!” was Twain’s first album to chart as number 1 of the Billboard 200. “Now” is also Twain’s fifth album to reach number 1 on the Top Country Albums chart as well, and with it entering the U.K. albums chart at number 1 this week, Twain’s album becomes the first country album to hit that mark in both the U.S. amd U.K. since Taylor Swift did it in 2012.
